Trail cameras – Becoming popular

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Trail cameras are now very popular among hunters and wild life photographers. Most of them have understood the importance of using trail cameras and the quality of pictures that they get in these cameras. Trail cameras were once only 35mm film cameras but they are available in 6 mega pixel cameras with digital infrared units. The clarity of the photos is really amazing and welcomed by the users. Reaching animals close enough and taking pictures may not be possible in all the cases or other options would be cameras with telescopic lens which can super-zoom the objects at very far distance, but this camera is going to be bulky and heavy to carry and walk around in a forest. Earlier, non coupled rangefinder cameras can display the distance of the object or the focus but requires the photographer to modify the value to the lens focus ring.

Some Cameras might have built in digital rangefinders and some may not. If the camera doesn’t have a range finder then it usually fitted t the accessory shoe of the camera. Predator calls is usually available on stores or you can just records some noises on the first visits and use them in the following visits.

Adding Life to presentations

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

The topic really means it, adding life to presentations and making them more informative and makes the sessions more active. We might have prepared a presentation in colleges and also after starting to work. There might be major difference in both, other than the subject the templates used and also the software. The tools used for presentation have their own merits and demerit. The most popular presentations tools PowerPoint and flash. PowerPoint was considered as one of the best presentation tool and was used by everyone irrespective of the place where we used them. PowerPoint presentations are still popular among certain groups because of the ease with which we can create presentations. We don’t need prior knowledge to use them instead directly we cans tart working on them. Animations can even be created in simple PowerPoint slides. Flash presentations are more advanced when compared to PowerPoint presentations and also requires technical skills to create them. In PowerPoint we can just use the templates directly but this may not be possible to greater extent in flash presentations. Flash presentations are more lively and do not require user interference to present it to the audience. Flash presentations are more like movies and can be paused and played if required.

RIM Sees Storm Leading Stronger Results

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Research In Motion announced financial results on Thursday that matched a warning it gave earlier this month, but executives said sales of the BlackBerry Storm touch-screen handset and other new products are brightening the company’s future.

RIM’s revenue in the third quarter ended Nov. 29 was US$2.78 billion, up 66 percent from a year earlier. Net income was $396.3 million, or $0.69 per share, up from $370.5 million or $0.65 per share a year earlier. Adjusted earnings, excluding the effect of the Canadian dollar’s depreciation on RIM’s tax rate, were $0.83 per share.

The profit met analysts’ expectations compiled by Thomson Financial, while revenue was slightly below the consensus estimate of $2.82 billion. But RIM had lowered its own forecast for the quarter on Dec. 3. Thursdays results were in line with that forecast.

The quarter was hurt by the economic downturn, but also by delays in the release of the BlackBerry Storm. When that phone finally went on sale Nov. 21, customers lined up outside many Verizon stores, and net subscriber additions for BlackBerry devices hit record levels in the U.S. The device is also offered by Vodafone UK. The Storm is expanding the market for RIM, with more than 70 percent of the new devices being sold to first-time BlackBerry users, the company said.

RIM now is struggling to keep up with demand for the Storm, though executives said on a conference call that supply problems should clear up in the coming weeks. Along with the Storm, the recently introduced BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Curve 8900 are also selling strongly, the company said.

Largely on the strength of those products, RIM forecast a big jump in revenue in the current quarter to between $3.3 billion and $3.5 billion. A high percentage of those sales is already booked, executives said. The popularity of the new models will also drive up the average selling price of RIM’s products to $370 from $337 in this quarter. Earnings per share in the current quarter should be between $0.83 and $0.91, the company forecast.

RIM is well-equipped to take advantage of a shift in the industry toward smartphones, executives said. Another smartphone maker, Palm, is having less success with the trend. On Thursday, Palm reported revenue in its fiscal second quarter, ended Nov. 30, of $191.6 million. That was down from $349.6 million a year earlier.

Palm sold 599,000 smartphones in the quarter, down 13 percent from a year earlier, and revenue from smartphones fell 39 percent. The company reported a net loss of $508.6 million, or $4.64 per share. Not counting a tax-related charge and other special items, Palm lost $80.2 million or $0.73 per share. Analysts had estimated a loss of $0.38 per share on revenue of $214 million.

“We’re working through an undeniably difficult period,” Palm President and CEO Ed Colligan said in a prepared statement. The company is now gearing up for the release of a new Linux-based operating system, code-named Nova, which reportedly may be unveiled at the International Consumer Electronics Show to be held next month in Las Vegas.

RIM’s shares (Nasdaq: RIMM) were up $0.31 at $38.75 in after-hours trading late Thursday. Palm (Nasdaq: PALM) was down $0.03 at $2.17, also in after-hours trading.

Space shuttle Endeavour finally home

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Space shuttle Endeavour returned home to NASA’s spaceport Friday, nearly two weeks after landing back on Earth.

Endeavour was forced to take a detour to California at mission’s end on Nov. 30 because of stormy weather at Kennedy Space Center, the main landing site. More bad weather further stalled the trip home. The shuttle didn’t leave Edwards Air Force Base, where it ended up, until Wednesday.

Endeavour was anchored atop a modified jumbo jet for the cross-country trip. The trip cost $1.8 million.

Endeavour and its crew of seven spent 16 days in orbit, most of that at the international space station. The astronauts renovated the inside of the space station and installed a recycling system for turning urine into drinking water.

Report: McCartney says he’s the political Beatle

Monday, December 15th, 2008

LONDON (AP) Paul McCartney claims that he was the real politicized figure in The Beatles, not John Lennon, according to an interview published Sunday. McCartney was quoted as saying it was he who first raised concerns over the Vietnam war within the group and advocated their anti-war stance.

Fans have long regarded Lennon, who wrote songs such as “Revolution” and in later years “Give Peace a Chance,” as the group’s authentic political voice. But McCartney claimed that his meeting with philosopher Bertrand Russell in the mid-1960s sparked his own and eventually Lennon’s curiosity about world affairs.

Following his talk with Russell, McCartney said he told “the guys, particularly John (Lennon), about this meeting and saying what a bad war this was,” The Sunday Times quoted McCartney as saying in the interview. The newspaper said McCartney was interviewed in Britain’s Prospect magazine, which is published on Wednesday.

McCartney’s publicist Stuart Bell was not immediately available to confirm the comments. According to the newspaper, McCartney said he believes his stance has inspired the work against African poverty carried out in recent years by Bob Geldof and U2’s Bono.

Another trader Ajay Jogiya, asserted that the city traders are facing 60 to 70 per cent loss on orders.
